Mac Retreat is located in Mangawhai Heads and rests on a hill with some sea views and an easy 5 minute walk to the local shops, cafes and estuary and a twenty minute walk to the local beach. Mac Retreat is unique in its services within Mangawhai as it also offers a variety of therapeutic massages, spa treatments and holiday respite care services. These services are provided to support and to enhance your stay while staying in Mangawhai. Mac retreat offers promotions and a variety of accommodation packages. Mangawhai is only an hours drive from Albany, Auckland and 50 minutes from Whangarei. There are a large variety of activities at Mangawhai, for example:-, Beautiful Beaches: Within 10 minutes drive you have access to four beautiful beaches i.e, Mangawhai Beach, Te Arai Beach, Langs Beach and Waipu Cove Beach. Golfing There is a golf course and a mini golf course situated within Mangawhai Heads. Charter Boats Charter boats and diving trips are provided by local services. Kayak Hire There is the opportunity to hire kayaks if you are interested to paddle up the Mangawhai Estuary and maybe stop off at the historical Mangawhai pub for a refreshing drink and/or lunch. Walking There are a variety of local walks around Mangawhai and some spectacular coastal walks with expansive views of the close by islands and up to Whangarei Heads. Mangawhai has a Walking Weekend in March every year where there is plenty of guided walks around the area. A great weekend of fun, meeting people and getting to see the local area. Local Markets There are a variety of local markets to visit Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there is always the local Mangwahi market based at the Mangawhai hall. This market is full of local produce and crafts. The Matakana farmers market and local craft market are only a 40 minute drive south (on a Saturday), with the possibility of returning via Goat Island Marine Reserve where you can snorkel and swim amongst New Zealands fish. Vineyards There are a variety of local vineyards to visit and sample their delicious wines. Lochiel Estate is one of the local vineyards that has recently won awards. We also sell Lochiel Estate wine at the retreat if you wish to arrive and have a delicious wine by the spa pool to help arrive and wind down for your stay. Millars Vineyard is a new local winery that has recently opened to the public and has a variety of wines for tasting and for sale. |
